Kevin Duane Smidt, age 44, of Yankton SD, died at home unexpectedly on Friday August 28, 2009.
He was born April 24th 1965 in Council Bluffs Iowa to Duane and Jan (Egeberg) Smidt. Kevin married Roxanne Nielsen on October 4th 1986 in Viborg SD and to this union had two children Jordan Duane and Alexis Rae. Kevin served in the United States Air Force from October 1986 to April 1989. He then moved his family to Yankton SD where he became a city carrier for the United States Postal Service from May 1990 until his declining health forced him into early retirement in June 2009. Kevin was an avid hunter, fisherman and boater. He always enjoyed a good laugh and joke, but most of all spending time with his family and friends. Kevin was proud to announce the arrival of his first grandchild, Giada Reene born August 25th 2009. He cherished his time spent with his mother. Kevin is survived by his mother Jan Guthmiller (Ken Kjer), Yankton SD, son Jordan, Yankton SD daughter Alexis, at home and granddaughter Giada. four sisters; Debbie (Bill) Hansen, Irene SD, Dawn (Jeff) Ness, Viborg SD, Kelly (Chris) Hedges, Yankton SD, Tonia (Chad) Hennings, Sioux Falls SD, also Roxanne Smidt Yankton SD, and close friend Pat Rosenbaum, Jefferson SD, several aunts, uncles and cousins and many nieces and nephews, two great nieces and one great nephew.
Kevin was preceded in death by his father Duane Smidt, stepfather Louis Guthmiller, grandparents; Dick and Ella Smidt and Ray Egeberg.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, September 1, 2009 at Christ The King Lutheran Church in Yankton, with reverend Dani Jo Ninke officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery at Brookings, SD.
Visitation will be Monday, August 31, 2009 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Hansen Funeral Home in Irene, SD.
