Jean was my beloved friend since we were both l2 years of age until her death. I just found out about it from Marge Gilbert last night Nov. 5. I tried to call the Gilbert home in Sioux City, but was told there was no such listing. I had wanted to find addresses for her brother Frank and for her children as well as her cousin Nancy so that I could write them personally, but to no avail.

To me she seemed to have a genious for friendship, and I know many many others felt the same way. I found her totally non-judgemental--always championing the left-out ones and giving them of her time and attention. Her loyalty knew no bounds. My heart cries out at her loss even though our face-to-face meetings were rare. I have long realized that some of her qualities were present in my late and present husband and probably were partially the reason I fell in love with them. My heart goes out to the others who loved her so much.

Please see that the family gets this message.

My heartfelt condolences to you on the loss of a wonderful, warm, and amazing woman. Jean was blessed with a great ability to make many young people feel special and loved. Mom will greatly miss her dearest friend Jean. Jean was there for her when she moved to Vermillion to take on the role of a house mother after being in Lemmon for almost 60 years. Their friendship grew and they just loved and cared about each other. It was a wonderful friendship to witness. We will truly miss her.

To Jean's Family,

You have my deepest sympathies. I will forever remember Jean as "Mom Anderson". Jean served as a wonderful housemother for a number of young men at the Delt House. She was a steady, calming influence for many who struggled with the trials and tribulations of college life. Whether it was proofreading a paper, mending a button or simply listening, Mom Anderson was always happy to help. She was a dear friend during my college years. I owe her a great deal. Thank you for sharing her with us. We will miss her.

As we used to sing to her after our Monday night meal, "Thanks Mom!"

It is difficult knowing Jean is no longer with us. She was an AMAZING house mother and I enjoyed all the years I spent with her at Pi Beta Phi. She had a heart of gold and always made time for anyone. I will never forget how much she loved sharing stories with me about how things used to be at USD and her own personal stories from when she was younger. She was great to talk to and will be missed dearly. My Pi Phi experience would not have been the same without the memories and time I spent with Jean. My prayers and condolences go out to her family during this difficult time.

To the family of Jean Anderson,

I am sorry for your lose. Jean was a wonderful lady, who I have fond memories of.

I will never forget meeting Jean. I had just moved from Bison to Vermillion and pledged Pi Beta Phi. An older "sister" informed me the house mom would like to meet me. A little shocked and puzzled why, she introduced me to Jean. She said something like I understand you're from Bison. Do you know any Gilberts or Negards? We instantly connection, and I felt immediately at home.

She touched many lives including mine. May she rest in peace.

Dear Callie, Erin, Dean and Shawn,
Our hearts are very heavy after hearing of your dear Mom's untimely death. Please know that our prayers are for you to be at peace and, in time, acceptance. You were all so VERY special to her. You are special to us too--we have felt a deep connection to you since you were all young kids! Your Mom and Dad were long-time special friends us and we miss both of them. Fortunately for us, we had a chance to have a very nice visit with Jean less than a month ago when we passed thru Vermillion on our way home to AZ. We had a lively conversation, a tour of the building and met some of her new friends. We will treasure that visit.

With love and our deepest sympathy.

Bill and Mary Jane Friedhoff
